9. How does one use the spacing charts in the Bridge Deck forming and hanging system Brochure?NCA has created three sets of charts for three typical overhang conditions for the following brackets: Standard Overhang Bracket, Adjustable Overhang Bracket and Deep Adjustable Overhang Bracket. The selection of the bridge overhang bracket and type of hanger is based on the overhang width, slab thickness, girder depth, screed load, screed wheel spacing and hanger types based on haunch requirement. The load tables are based on screed load with wheel spacing of 24'. Once you have the above information, you can determine the bracket spacing and type of bracket suited for your condition.
10. In conditions where the ends of hangers are exposed, how should they be protected?If there is concern about end protection and corrosion, hangers can be galvanized or plated.
11. How does one determine the appropriate interior hanger to use?There are two criteria to consideration when selecting an interior hanger. They are the height of the haunch and the safe working load per side.
Interior Hanger Haunch Safe Working Load Per Site
Type #1 10 mm (3/8") 16.8 kN (3800 lbs.)
Type #2 30 mm (1 1/8") 10.0 kN (2250 lbs.)
Type #3 51 mm (2") 10.0 kN (2250 lbs.)
HTBH 0 26.7 kN (6,000 lbs.)
There are three methods one can employ which must be approved by a Professional Engineer:
1) Use an extension to the horizontal member of the fascia bracket. This will reduce the bracket spacing.
2) Use heavier nailer, typically (2) 2 x4 on edge to handle the bending moments.
3) Use a combination of the above.
NCA offers hangers either as a hooked, j-bolt or adjustable half hanger to accommodate this condition.
14. How do you form a one-sided fascia condition?Select NCA adjustable half hanger, which can be attached to the existing reinforcing bar with clips. The safe working load for 1- clip is 4.8 kN (1,100 lbs) and 2- clips is13.3 kN (3,000lbs).
15. How does one compensate for the slope at the underside of a bridge deck?Fascia overhang brackets supplied by NCA are equipped with an adjustable range to obtain a vertical plumb line.
