Common sealants used in construction are sealants for windows and doors that are designed to reduce the infiltration of gases, moisture and thermal transfer. These sealants are designed to be weatherproof, but flexible to allow for normal shifting within the structure.

A concrete joint sealant will allow movement, without transferring pressure, of the slab itself or the surrounding structures to prevent damage while remaining firm, flexible and providing a weather-tight seal. It is formulated to bridge the gap of a joint, and protect the expansion joint material from erosion.
